Traditional analytics can’t tell you what ChatGPT says about your company when a prospect asks. There’s no impression count, no click-through rate, no dashboard — which is exactly why most B2B teams have no idea whether they’re visible in AI search at all. Here’s a simple way to find out.
Step 1: Ask the questions your buyers are actually asking
Don’t start with your brand name — start with the problem your buyers are trying to solve. If you sell Webflow migration services, ask each tool:
- “What’s the best way to migrate a WordPress site to Webflow?”
- “Who are good Webflow development agencies in Singapore?”
- “How much does a B2B Webflow rebuild typically cost?”
Run the same prompts across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Note which brands get mentioned, which get linked, and which get described in more detail than others.
Step 2: Ask directly about your brand
Follow up with direct prompts that name your company: ask what it does, and what it’s known for. A model with accurate, specific knowledge of your positioning is a good sign. Vague, outdated, or missing answers point to a visibility gap worth closing.
Step 3: Check where the model’s answer is coming from
Perplexity and Gemini often show sources inline — check whether they’re pulling from your own site, a directory listing, a review platform, or a competitor’s comparison page that happens to mention you. This tells you which channels are actually feeding AI answers about your category, not just which channels you think matter.
Step 4: Track the pattern, not a single answer
AI outputs vary between runs and update over time as models retrain and re-crawl the web. Treat this as a recurring audit — monthly is a reasonable cadence — rather than a single test. What you’re watching for is a trend: is your brand appearing more often, in more detail, and with more accurate information over time?
Step 5: Turn gaps into content priorities
If a model can’t describe your differentiators, that’s a content gap on your own site — the answer likely isn’t stated clearly or structurally anywhere a crawler could parse it. If a competitor is consistently favoured, look at what makes their pages easier to cite: clearer definitions, comparison tables, or simply more consistent language across the web.
